Consultation on the Waste Management Plan for England

Closed 15 Oct 2020

Opened 20 Aug 2020

Overview

We are seeking views on a revised draft Waste Management Plan for England (the Plan). Under the Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2011 the Government is required to review the Plan every 6 years. The content of the Plan is determined by the requirements of Schedule 1 to the Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2011. The Plan provides an analysis of the current waste management situation in England. It is primarily about the quantity of waste there is in England and how that waste is managed. The Plan sets out a summary of current policies, not new policies or announcements. It reflects the policies included in the Government’s Resources and Waste Strategy, published in 2018.

The documents which form part of this consultation can be found below.

Why your views matter

This consultation seeks views on whether the draft Plan – when combined with waste planning policy – will fulfil the obligations of the Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2011, as far as England is concerned, and to allow consultees to comment on the proposed Plan. The Plan is supported by an Environmental Report produced as part of a Strategic Environmental Assessment. The non-technical summary and the Environmental Report form part of this consultation. We estimate that - because there are no new policies in the Plan – there are no additional burdens arising from the Plan itself. The Devolved Administrations and Gibraltar are responsible for producing their own waste management plans which together with the Plan for England will provide waste management plans which cover the UK.
