Draft South East Inshore Marine Plan Consultation

Closes 20 Apr 2020

Consultation Contents

How do I complete the consultation?

The consultation for the Draft South East Inshore Marine Plan has been designed to enable stakeholders to comment on each part of the Draft Marine Plan and its Draft Technical Annex. The consultation also provides an opportunity to comment on the Draft Sustainability Appraisal.

Stakeholders are recommended to respond to the consultation using the online Citizen Space tool. This ensures there is no misinterpretation or ambiguity, that responses are specific to the section intended by the stakeholder, and can be analysed in the most effective way possible. Nonetheless, if you need to submit a response by email or in writing, please contact planning@marinemanagement.org.uk or The Marine Management Organisation, Marine Planning Team, Lancaster House, Hampshire Court, Newcastle Business Park, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE4 7YH. A template will then be provided that corresponds to the Citizen Space tool.

Stakeholders wishing to respond on behalf of multiple consultees, that are not already covered through a response made on their behalf by an organisation, can contact the MMO for an alternative method of response.

The Draft South East Inshore Marine Plan is accompanied by a Draft South East Inshore Marine Plan Technical Annex and we expect this, along with the Marine Management Organisation’s Explore Marine Plans (link opens in new window) digital service, to assist those using the plan. It may be helpful to familiarise yourself with the consultation questions ahead of reading the Plan documents. The consultation gives stakeholders an opportunity to comment on the:

  • background to development of the Draft South East Inshore Marine Plan,
  • the vision for the south east inshore marine area,
  • all policies including their aims and implementation approach,
  • the objectives of the Draft South East Inshore Marine Plan and how these are achieved by the policies (note that questions about objectives come after policy questions, so that respondents are familiar with the policies and are better equipped to consider how they support the achievement of the objectives),
  • application of the plan as a whole,
  • approach to plan monitoring, review and reporting,
  • Draft Sustainability Appraisal.

Once you have submitted your response, you can enter your e-mail address before completing the survey and you will receive an acknowledgement e-mail with a copy of your response.

We continue to learn from the feedback you have provided when responding online to previous consultations. This means that stakeholders can now comment individually on each objective, policy and paragraph within the Draft Marine Plan. When completing a response on each section clicking “Continue” will return you to the Consultation Contents page. You can also save your progress and return to your response multiple times during the consultation period (please note you must have cookies enabled in your web browser to use this feature). Following Iteration 3 (link opens in new window), we have also added functionality that allows stakeholders to apply their feedback on one draft marine plan to the other draft marine plans being consulted on. This saves time for national stakeholders, or those interested in more than one marine area. To submit your response, click the "Finish" button at the bottom of the Consultation Contents page.

Guidance can be found throughout the consultation. We would request that when considering your answers, please set out your support and/or concerns including any suggested changes. You will need to note which document your comment refers to and cite the specific policy, paragraph numbers or figure numbers.

If you are not using the online tool to submit your response, please still ensure you outline your reasons for using a different method when you submit a response to the “Feedback on the Online Consultation Tool” section of the consultation. This will help us improve how we carry out future consultations.

The dropdown box below provides a copy of the Draft Marine Plan, Draft Technical Annex, Draft Sustainability Appraisal and Habitats Regulations Assessments reports for download. These can be used to aid your response to the consultation and for consideration in decision-making, now the Draft South East Inshore Marine Plan Consultation has commenced.
