Glass Packaging Recycling: Proposed changes to Business Target
Overview
This consultation seeks your views on proposals by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, the Scottish Government, the Welsh Government and the Department of the Environment for Northern Ireland, to amend the glass recycling business target in the Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging Waste) (Amendment) Regulations 2012 and the Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging Waste) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2013.
New evidence indicates that the glass waste arisings figures (the so called ‘flow’ figure) that Government used to calculate our achievement of the EU Packaging Directive target, and set the statutory business targets for 2013-2017, is some 350k tonnes too high.
As a result of the new information, this consultation makes proposals to reduce the UKs glass packaging recycling business target.
