The Notification documents can be found in the related documents section.
Langdon Ridge is a landscape-scale mosaic of grasslands, woodlands and scrub situated on the southern and western urban fringe of Basildon, Essex. The site interests are the areas of unimproved neutral grasslands, fen meadows, woodlands, and areas of grassland supporting populations of invertebrates and flowering plants. Langdon Ridge provides opportunities to reconnect people with nature in a highly urban area. There is a substantial area of Country Park and local wildlife trust nature reserve within the site boundary and the area is valued locally for its importance to wildlife and as a green space for recreation. The site is important in providing habitat connectivity through stepping stone sites across the wider south Essex landscapes, particularly for invertebrates from the open habitat mosaics of Thames Terraces. Langdon Ridge SSSI covers an area of over 345ha and incorporates Basildon Meadows SSSI which was notified in 1985.
We are now assessing the response to the consultation and will be making a recommendation to the Board of Natural England in due course. Natural England has to make a decision to either confirm or withdraw this notification by 28 March 2019 or the notification will cease to exist. We will widely promote Natural England's decision.
