Natural England consulted with owner, occupiers and interested parties on the notification of Down Farm Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) on 7 February 2019.

No objections have been received relating to the notification of this land under Section 28 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. Four representations of support were received from Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Dorset Wildlife Trust and West Dorset District Council.

Overview
Down Farm is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and is notified 7 February 2019 for its nationally important species-rich lowland meadow grassland and assemblage of grassland fungi and is an outstanding example of traditionally managed hay meadows. Down Farm is located west Dorset near the market town of Beaminster and covers an area of 8.09 ha. You can submit your views via an online survey, by email or post. We are now assessing the response to the consultation and will be making a recommendation to the Board of Natural England in due course. Natural England has to make a decision to either confirm or withdraw this notification by 6 November 2019 or the notification will cease to exist.
