Aarhus National Implementation Report 2021
Overview
The UK is a Party to the Aarhus Convention, a UNECE treaty which provides for access to information, public participation in decision making and access to justice in environmental matters.
Why your views matter
Parties to the Convention are requested to submit a National Implementation Report every three years. We are currently preparing the next report, which is to be submitted in 2021. This report covers legislative, regulatory and other measures through which the UK implements the Aarhus Convention, and provides examples of the practical steps being taken to implement the provisions of the Convention in the UK.
We welcome feedback on this draft report, and also welcome further examples to supplement those already included. Please submit your views on Defra’s Citizen Space and/or via email to aarhusnir2021@defra.gov.uk. In your comments, please try to cite paragraph numbers of the draft report wherever possible. Responses must be submitted by 23.59 on the 27 November 2020.
What happens next
All responses will be considered carefully and the text of the report will be amended as appropriate. The UK has been requested to submit its National Implementation Report by the recommended deadline of 21 April 2021, in order to provide the secretariat the time to prepare the synthesis report ahead of the Meeting of the Parties. All National Implementation Reports will be made available via the UNECE website (http://www.unece.org/env/pp/reports.html) in due course.
