Options for tariff quota administration for garlic imported from China

Closed 16 Dec 2022

Opened 21 Oct 2022

Overview

This consultation seeks views on options for the administration of Tariff Rate Quota (TRQ) for garlic imported from China to the UK.

The TRQ for garlic imported from China is usually oversubscribed so is currently managed by a license system.  The way the licenses are administered can affect who qualifies for a share of quota and how much they are allocated. It can also influence how easy it is for new applicants to obtain a share of quota.

We are seeking your views on five possible options under consideration to administer the TRQ in a fair and transparent way without undue barriers to new entrants.  We are also interested in any alternative proposals and supporting evidence you can provide.

Why your views matter

Your responses and any evidence provided will be actively considered alongside other factors to inform the decision-making process.  Where we have contact details, we will share a summary of responses after the end of the consultation period.

We encourage responses via Citizen Space by clicking the online consultation link below.
